Memories Are Keys to Reality Selection

Cynthia Sue LarsonCynthia Sue Larson

"We observe memory sequences when we observe time.
Hence there is no time; there are only memory sequences.
Or in other words, what we call time is actually a memory sequence.
These sequences are recordable in arbitrary ways, and they can be
replayed. Thus what we call the past is only a matter of record.
There is no such thing as the past; there are only memory
sequences that are somewhat related to each other."
-- Fred Alan Wolf, Matter into Feeling
This month I got my ears pierced for the first time. As I was cleaning the earrings the very first day I wore them, I had the distinct memory that I had done this all before. The earrings felt familiar, the cleaning felt familiar, and I even could recall having worn a variety of beautiful dangly earrings over the years. At this moment, I don't own a variety of beautiful dangly earrings. When I told a friend that I'd just gotten my ears pierced, she replied with surprise, "But aren't your ears already pierced? I always love seeing what earrings you're wearing, and I could have sworn your ears were pierced!"

Memories are much more than factual recollections of the past. According to the parallel universes model of reality, parallel versions of you are at this very moment actively exploring all possibilities, although you typically only recall having chosen one. While you may be traveling through numerous parallel realities, you are typically conscious of only experiencing one reality at any given time. Your memories can therefore be the keys by which you can retrace your path through time.

While memories show us the path by which we have experienced the world, they are extremely flexible. This flexibility allows our memories to be altered in ways that demonstrate how we may, in fact, have experienced parallel universes. For example, let's take a look at scientific evidence that suggests how easily our memories can be modified in ways that profoundly affect our future behavior. Psychologist Elizabeth Loftus and her colleagues have recently published findings that report how people whose memories have been modified to recall negative experiences in childhood with specific foods can develop new aversions to those foods, leading them to avoid those foods after their childhood memories have been altered to include new "false memories" of food-related trauma. I would suggest that rather than remembering previous trauma, it may be more beneficial to recall having been fully and completely loved. Such positive memories have the power to bring a sense of confidence and resilience to people who might otherwise feel sad, lonely, and afraid.
CSL MeditationMeditate and improve your brain!

Turning our attention to how our beliefs affect the future, we can investigate how our self-fulfilling prophecies have the power to create in the external world exactly what we predict or "remember-in-advance" to be true. Our beliefs affect others as well, most noticeably when we forecast difficulties, and share those negative views of the future, according to a recently published study on self-fulfilling prophecies published in Psychological Science. What "false memories" have in common with self-fulfilling prophecy is that both our memories about the past and our beliefs can be modified, and both can affect our future reality and the realities of others.

Recent brain studies have shown that people who are highly suggestible can be hypnotized in ways that demonstrate their brains have been altered by mere suggestion, giving hypnosis increased credibility in the field of neuroscience. Hypnosis isn't the only thing that's been demonstrated to modify the brain; neuroscientists have recently discovered that frequent meditators experience measurable, positive changes in brain development, in terms of increased cortical thickness. Study team member and Yale psychology professor Jeremy Gray notes, "... meditation practice can change anyone's gray matter... you don't have to be a monk."

See for yourself what difference you notice in your life when you take time to remember positive memories about the past, as well as positive feelings about what you "remember-in-advance." It might help to know that this exercise in itself is a form of meditation, so just spending some quality time with these energizing thoughts and feelings will do you a world of good.

Two Self-fulfilling Prophecies Are Stronger, and More Harmful, Than One
American Psychological Society
3 January 2005
by Stephanie Madon
Time and again, research has demonstrated the power of an individual's self-fulfilling prophecies - if you envision yourself tripping as you walk across a stage, you will be more likely to stumble and fall. New evidence suggests that previous studies have underestimated not only the effect of our own negative prophecies, but also the power of others' false beliefs in promoting negative outcomes.

Power of Suggestion May Help Dieters Avoid Specific Foods

Most dieters know that the mind is a powerful force in the battle of the bulge; but a new study led by psychologist Elizabeth Loftus shows that the malleable nature of human memory might be used to help people avoid certain fattening foods.

Nancy & Elena interview Cynthia Sue Larson
There are indications of things in history that have changed, reality shifts! Could we be changing the past by moving through parallel universes? The "Alive Again" phenomena, newspaper reports of someone's death yet later they are alive and the prior reports are not found, fascinating. Do we notice this in our own lives or write it off as "bad memory"? An argument all about a pivotal comment that was never made... keep an open mind to experiencing multiple histories. Cynthia's experiments with changing the past, what can be done to break out of habitual thinking? We have access to all memories past and future, we can be the best possible future self!"

Meditate on This: Buddhist Tradition Thickens Parts of the Brain
Live Science

Meditation alters brain patterns in ways that are likely permanent, scientists have known. But a new study shows key parts of the brain actually get thicker through the practice. The study also indicates that regular meditation may slow age-related thinning of the frontal cortex.

This is Your Brain Under Hypnosis
New York Times
22 November 2005
by Sandra Blakeslee
Hypnosis, with its long and checkered history in medicine and entertainment, is receiving some new respect from neuroscientists. Recent brain studies of people who are susceptible to suggestion indicate that when they act on the suggestions their brains show profound changes in how they process information. The suggestions, researchers report, literally change what people see, hear, feel and believe to be true.

(4) Your Reality Shift Stories

Ontario, Canada

I have a reality shift to share with you. Recently when I was about to go to the mall with my mom, I checked the battery from my watch so I knew the number and size. As I took the very small battery out to check the size, I stopped at the dining room table and sat down. Suddenly, I forgot what I had done with the battery. I asked my mom and she said I had placed it in my pants pocket of my jeans. I had no memory of doing that at all. I was like a blank. And I felt sorta strange to just be so blank without even a hint.

Moving quickly like a flash past the bewilderment of forgetfulness I asked out loud, "where could the battery be?" My mom replied saying how she saw me put in in my pocket. I responded, "what pocket?" And as I was about to check all pockets, including jacket pockets, my mom said "It was your jean pocket." Almost instantly after that, right in front of me on the dining room table, the small round battery was almost glowing to me. I remarked happily to mom about the battery just showing up after I asked. She was rather surprised. We were both grateful, and headed out to the mall.

Yes, I have a new battery and my gold watch is ticking. Life is great, and I love the fact life keeps getting better and better. There is just more love to spread, and many reasons to smile.

I stayed home from school sick Friday and so I decided to make Halloween goodie bags so that my mom didn't have to. I had to make 80, and over the course of about an hour I made 78, and I had two more empty bags left to put candy in. I left the room for a few minutes to take more cold pills, and came back. I couldn't find the two empty bags! I looked around for a few minutes, the decided to count how many bags I already had done. There were 80! The goodie bags had made themselves!

Berkeley, California

My two housemates and I recently decided to watch a movie together, so I brought my TV/DVD player from the shelf next to my desk in my room into the livingroom. When I returned to my bedroom to get the remote, I couldn't find it anywhere. This was odd, because I always put it either on top of the set (and I hadn't heard it fall off) or on the edge of my computer desk next to my mouse, just in front of my printer. After searching fruitlessly I decided it didn't matter because I could start the DVD manually from the front of the set. "Oh well," I thought, "it'll show up."

We got halfway through the DVD, got tired, and went to bed. I checked my email before bed and again when I woke in the morning. And again at lunch, a fourth time just before dinner, and a fifth time before going into the livingroom to watch the rest of the DVD with Mary and Lloyd. Much to my aggravation, I discovered that the remote is necessary for the fast-forward control; there is no fast forward button on the front of the set. I quickly scoured my room, and after about ten frustrating minutes, called in my housemate Mary. I told her where I usually keep the remote, and together we still couldn't locate it. Then Lloyd came in with a very large flashlight and we tore the room apart. For close to an hour we moved every movable piece of furniture, emptied drawers, and searched with the flashlight in every dark place -- including moving the mouse to lift up the printer tray. No luck.

I started wondering how much it would cost to replace the darn thing. Once again, I sat at my computer to check email before bed. Completely absorbed in what I was reading, I put my hand on my mouse, and noticed it felt very odd. I had put my hand on the remote, which was now sitting directly inbetween the mouse and the keyboard, only a couple inches from the edge of my printer tray. When I walked into the kitchen to show my housemates the remote, Lloyd looked shocked. "But it wasn't there! Remember when I looked under the tray with the flashlight?!"

Mary, the daughter of an astrophysicist, decided that her two spacehead roommates had not seen the obvious (her rationale that she hadn't seen it either was that she hadn't looked very hard). Here's my theory. Not only do dematerializations occur, but I think in a sense Mary's observation is correct - they occur much more commonly among those of us who tend to be "spacey," because our minds are flexible enough that we can make shifts more easily. This is kind of a Catch-22, like the quantum physics observation that the attitude of the scientist performing the experiment affects the results.

Whatever the reason for its disappearance and reappearance, I KNOW beyond a shadow of a doubt that my remote was NOT sitting on my desk in between my mouse and keyboard for over 24 hours without me noticing. And wherever it was, I hope it had a good time...

Olympia, Washington

My name is Laraine and I have proof that manifestation and love goes a long way. My husband and I are high school sweethearts. Unfortunately, we went our seperate paths for a few years and lost touch. I was in Sasebo, Japan and he was in Cuba, and Afganistan. There never was day to where I did not think about him. He came home to Washington in 2003 and drove all the way from one side of the mountains to the other just to leave a note on my aunt's door, hoping that it would reach me. Well, it just so happens that it did. I came home on leave and we got married. I went back to Japan and he was sent to Iraq. Before I went back to Japan I gave him a Saint Christopher's pendant to wear around his neck as a symbol of my love to keep him safe. To this day he has never taken it off. :)

Durring that time that he was there I prayed and asked for help from my gaurdian angels and his as well. Every morning and all through out the day I would imagine a bubble around my husband and pray for his saftey. He had quite a few situations to where his life was almost taken. Both him and I have come to the conclusion that if it was not for my love, prayers and the "bubble" that I would imagine around him his life would cease to exsist. I am a firm believer that love is so powerfull and I have living proof that love can reach anyone as long as you can imagine them in your mind. Your love for that person will not only protect that person but the person will feel that love as well.

There is a song that I love and a phrase from it is, "I'm carrying your love with me from west virginia down to Tennesee." That is so true. No matter where you are or where the person you love is, who ever that may be, love is all you really truly need to get through the tough times. My husband is home now and we have a beautiful son who will be three months on the 21st of October. All is well if you trust yourself and the universe to give you what you ask for, and surround yourself with people you love and those who love you.

(5) Reality Shifters Q & A

Q: Hi Cynthia,
Could I change something from the distant past if I really concentrated?
-- Cindy
Ontario, Canada

A: Dear Cindy,
Yes, it is possible to change things from the distant past. Helmut Schmidt conducted experiments in San Antonio, Texas in 1992 with subjects who were requested to exert mental influence on prerecorded random numbers shown on an electronic display. The numbers had been generated some months earlier by an apparatus involving a radioactive source and a decay counter (since radioactive decay timings are considered as "truly random" as anything). The mental influence was measured by viewing the prerecorded numbers after the experiment. Schmidt reported that, indeed, his subjects had successfully affected the random decay in such a way that, "one that had a less than 1 in 1000 probability of occuring by chance." I've experienced reality shifts that involved changing something retroactively... in such a way that the "new" situation includes a very "new past" along with what has changed in present time.
lots of love,
-- Cynthia

Void In Art

Void In Art
by Mark Levy

Experiencing the Healing Balm of Emptiness

At times when the world seems increasingly frenetic, there is a healing balm in emptiness. VOID IN ART depicts and describes the ever-elusive, energetic essence of the Void, which turns out to be much more than the absence of suchness. As Lao Tzu wrote in the Tao te Ch'ing, "There was something formless and perfect before the universe was born... It is serene, empty... Solitary, unchanging... Infinite. Eternally present... It is the mother of the universe... for lack of a better name, I call it the Tao." VOID IN ART is a multidimensional delight for art enthusiasts everywhere, as well as for those who delight in deeper explorations of that from which all creation arises. Author Mark Levy discusses the Void in art as it appeared in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and in relationship to Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Forty-six illustrations grace the pages of this tribute to that which is simultaneously empty and infinite... to that whose very nature defies categorization and description. Reading VOID IN ART feels like listening spell-bound and enchanted as an art historian shares his life-long passion for what is possibly the deepest, most mysterious subject known to man. With a deft eye for interweaving artistic meaning and historical detail for each piece of art described, Levy artfully provides delightful insights into artists who have been touched and transformed by the Void. I give VOID IN ART my highest recommendation for all seekers and students of consciousness, philosophy, and meditation.
